HTC One A9 first impressions | Up Close with the HTC One A9
The latest smartphone from HTC, unveiled earlier today, may be the latest addition to the One series, but that’s mostly in spirit, given that this new device is quite the departure from the flagship line. What does this new smartphone bring to the table? We find out, with this first look at the HTC One A9!
HTC One A9 first look: Smart design changes and a price much less than iPhone 6 – HTC’s latest smartphone One A9 looks and feels a lot like Apple’s hugely popular smartphone iPhone 6. But the two devices have some major differences, including a much lower cost than the Apple’s device.
The design of the One A9 includes the polycarbonate antenna bands across the back, the move from curved back designs to a flat back, which is completely different from distinctive beveled edges to smooth edges, the loss of BoomSound stereo front facing speakers to a single bottom facing speaker, and the small round camera lens. Here we will look at each of these a bit closer.
The unibody aluminum HTC One M7 was launched by the company in February 2013. The company used zero-gap injection molding to insert the polycarbonate bands that insulated the antennas.Similar bands were added by Apple to its aluminum phone design with the iPhone 6 in late 2014. Some claimed that Apple copied HTC on this method of using embedded polycarbonate to address antenna issues in an aluminum body phone.
The curved backs of HTC One M7, M8, and M9 gave HTC a bit more room to work with internal components. The curved back designs also make it more comfortable to hold the phone in hand. But the HTC One A9 is now flat just like the Apple iPhone.
The split edge design of the M9 gives a phone a cool effect where gold and silver came together. The edges are now rounded aluminum with the front glass on the display curving into the edges. HTC has a brushed finish back and polished bead-blasted sides. On the other hand, Apple has polished metal all around.
HTC BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers without doubt set the bar that all other smartphone speakers were measured against. HTC also deserve credit for inspiring others to move to front facing speakers as we now see Sony, Motorola, Huawei, and others with devices including this design feature. The One A9 has a bottom mounted speaker just like the Samsung Galaxy phones and the iPhone 6.
